The Antrim Coast

Friday July 18th – Monday July 21st (Weekend Break)
Monday Aug 25th – Mon Sept 1st
Monday 22nd September – Monday 29th September

This tour will bring us up to the top of Ireland, to the beautiful Antrim coast. The area was largely ignored by visitors for a long time due to the troubles, but with that behind us, people are now getting to enjoy this breathtaking scenery.
The tour will include a walk over a 300 year old rope bridge, and a visit to the town of Bushmills, famous for its whiskey. It may actually be a good idea to visit Bushmills before we tackle the rope bridge, just incase the oul nerves need steadying !
The surrounding area is known as Larrybane, meaning ancient white site, referring to the great limestone cliffs near the bridge. Archaeological evidence suggests the site was inhabited by Neolithic man, and remains have also been found of an ancient promontory fort dating from around 800AD.
A quarry was in operation at Larrybane until the early 1970s, mining the limestone for chalk. The area provides some of the most spectacular views along this part of the coast – of Rathlin Island to the north and the Scottish coast to the east. Larrybane also marks the beginning of the Causeway Coast Path, which stretches 12 miles west to the Giant’s Causeway, perfect for a leisurely run.
We will also take in the city of Belfast. You can enjoy award winning restaurants, atmospheric bars, cutting edge clubs, a burgeoning shopping scene, world class theatres, live music, galleries and fabulous festivals.
